Files are not uploaded · processed in your browser
Compares the text of the body, headings, lists, tables and text boxes. Headers, footers, footnotes, comments, images and formatting are not compared. Tracked changes are treated as accepted.
Choose the original and the changed Word document, then press Compare.
How to compare two Word documents
- Choose the earlier .docx under “Original Word document” and the revised .docx under “Changed Word document”.
- Press Compare. Paragraphs and tables of both documents are read in reading order and compared paragraph by paragraph.
- The summary shows how many paragraphs were changed, added, removed or moved, and how many headings and table rows changed. Below it, ⟦ ⟧ marks exactly what changed.
- Download the HTML report or the .diff file to archive or share the result.
Notes
- Only text is compared, not fonts, colors, images or layout.
- Chinese, Japanese and Korean are compared character by character, English word by word.
- To compare PDFs or plain text, use PDF Compare or Text Compare (Diff Checker).

Are my documents uploaded?
No. Reading and comparing happen entirely in your browser; the files never leave your device.
What is compared?
The text of the document body: paragraphs, headings, list items, tables (each row is one item) and text boxes. Headers, footers, footnotes, endnotes, comments, images and formatting such as fonts and colors are not compared.
What about documents with tracked changes?
They are compared as if all changes were accepted: inserted text is included and deleted text is left out.
What do #, • and | mean in the result?
They mark the paragraph type: "#" is a heading (the count is the level), "•" is a list item (indentation shows the level) and "| … |" is a table row. Turning a paragraph into a heading or changing a heading level shows as a change. List numbers are not compared.
Can I compare .doc files or password-protected documents?
No. Save old .doc files as .docx in Word or a similar app first, and remove the open password from protected documents.
Can I export the result?
You can download an HTML report (removed text in red, added text in green; open it in a browser or print it) or download or copy a standard unified diff (.diff).
